The Science Behind Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a completely natural state of focused attention, similar to when you’re deeply absorbed in thought, a book, or a task you love. In this state, your brain naturally shifts into slower alpha and theta waves, the same patterns seen during relaxation, meditation, and creative flow. These brainwave states quiet the busy, analytical part of the mind and open up access to the subconscious, where habits, beliefs, and emotional patterns are stored. Modern brain imaging has shown that during hypnosis, the areas of the brain involved in focus, awareness, and emotional regulation communicate more efficiently. This allows you to respond more easily to positive suggestions, release unhelpful patterns, and create genuine, lasting change. Hypnosis doesn’t take away control – it helps you use your mind more effectively.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Most people can be hypnotised as long as they are willing, receptive, and believe in the process. The subconscious mind cannot be accessed if it resists hypnosis. That said, there are a few contraindications, which will be discussed during your clarity call.

Will my mind be controlled and will I cluck like a chicken?

Absolutely not! You can never be made to do anything against your will. Think of hypnotherapy as guided self-hypnosis – a process where you remain in control at all times.

Are you qualified and experienced?

Yes. I am fully qualified in all the techniques I use and pending registration (Dec 25) of both the General Hypnotherapy Register and the National Hypnotherapy Society (UK). I am bound by their Codes of Ethics to act in your best interest at all times.

Do I need to engage in this process or will it just “happen”?

Active participation is key. Your subconscious mind will support the changes you wish to make, but progress happens when we work together consciously and intentionally.

Can you treat mental health disorders?

No. I am not a medical practitioner. Hypnotherapy should not replace medical or psychiatric treatment. If you have a diagnosed mental health condition, please speak to your GP or specialist before starting.

Is hypnosis safe? What if I don’t wake up?

Completely safe. You always remain in control and can come out of trance at any time. You do not lose awareness or consciousness – hypnotherapy is a natural, voluntary state of focused relaxation.
